Get To Know Mayon & Elizabeth Hight
Where are you originally from?
Mayon: I was born in Columbia Maryland and raised on the Big Island of Hawaii. My childhood was characterized by the Waldorf School I attended, spending time in nature, and playing in the ocean.
Elizabeth: I was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado, but spent the majority of my childhood in Dearborn, Michigan.
Where did you go to college and what did you study?
Mayon: I attended Colorado State University where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. I use this knowledge every day to give me a clear lens to view the mechanical world through as well as apply the problem-solving tools I was taught.
Elizabeth: Interestingly, I didn’t pursue a traditional college path. Instead, I launched my professional dance career immediately after high school. This decision ultimately led me to incredible experiences—such as performing with the iconic Radio City Rockettes, as well as with world-renowned artists like Beyoncé and Pitbull. The journey was unconventional, but it’s been a thrilling and rewarding ride!
Were there any early indicators in your life that hinted that you would lead the life you’re leading now?
Mayon: I have always had the dream of flight! When I purchased my first airplane in 2019 the world of aviation became my primary focus. I am in awe of the freedom and adventure I can wield with access and the ability to fly.
Elizabeth: I’ve always been someone who embraces the road less traveled, though I never could have predicted that I would one day become the owner of a Skydive Dropzone! I think my adventurous spirit and willingness to seize unique opportunities have always been central to my character. In this case, I owe much of this exciting chapter in my life to my incredibly adventurous husband, whose enthusiasm for skydiving ignited this new passion of mine.
If you had to list five values that your family instilled in you, what would those be and what do you hold to be most important?
Mayon: Honesty; Integrity (Most important); Hard Work; Save; Charity and Humility.
Elizabeth: My family has instilled in me values such as honesty, hard work, perseverance, gratitude, and respect for others. Of these, hard work stands out as the most crucial. I may not always be the “best” in the room, but I pride myself on being the hardest worker. That tenacity has opened doors and created countless opportunities throughout my life, and it continues to be the cornerstone of my success.
Favorite quote that inspires you?
Mayon: “I tore myself away from the safe comfort of certainties through my love for truth – and truth rewarded me.”
-Simone de Beauvoir
Elizabeth: “Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out.” – Robert Collier
This quote resonates deeply with me, as it reminds me that success is not just about big, bold moments—it’s about the everyday consistency and dedication that make those moments possible.
What do you love the most about owning a dropzone?
Mayon: Providing unforgettable and often times life-changing experiences to others and leading a staff of people who are passionate to provide the service just as much.
Elizabeth: After years of curating “once-in-a-lifetime” experiences in various settings, owning a Skydive Dropzone has been an exhilarating new chapter. At Skydive Snohomish, we create unparalleled, adrenaline-fueled experiences that are truly life-changing. There’s nothing quite like seeing people conquer their fears and check off a major bucket-list item, and being a part of that journey is deeply fulfilling.
What is the most important business lesson you’ve learned in your working career?
Mayon: Appreciate others and commit to never-ending improvement in all that you do.
“Kaizen” is the Japanese term meaning constant self-expansion, self-mastery, and progress. It serves as the motto for an ever-expanding mind, body, and soul.
Elizabeth: The most valuable lesson I’ve learned is the power of adaptability. No two days are ever the same, and whether it’s in dance, business, or life in general, the ability to remain flexible, evolve, and adapt to new challenges is essential for long-term success. Whether it’s adjusting to unexpected circumstances or innovating new solutions, embracing change is key.
How old were you when you made your first jump?
Mayon: 22
What about that first jump made you fall in love with the sport?
Mayon: The first jump was a whirlwind of emotions and excitement! My love for the sport really exploded once I started doing relative work with multiple jumpers. The dream of human flight became reality once I was confident in my skills to fly around the sky playing with my friends.
